Granimator Character Development #2

Having put a little bit more time into the Granimator App I have finished 3 ‘styles of one character, no names yet for this one but suggestions welcome!

I am quite pleased with these so far but I still need to do another two characters with three versions for each, plus various backgrounds and extra little elements that will help to create the first installment of the wallpaper.

I was also pleased to see Ustwo get ‘in book’ status at this years D&AD awards, well done guys! looks like it’s good timing to jump on the bandwagon and finish this design pack.

Dj Irk Logo

I was asked by certain Mr Dj Irk to design a new logo for him. Being a winner of Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2010 it was a project that was close to my heart. Unfortunately like a lot of clients he didn’t like my fav designs as much as the ‘decoy’ ones I used in an attempt to lure him into my eyecandy trap – nevermind, here are some examples of the logo.

The final logo is not here as I will wait until he has used it before I steal his thunder, bless.

I have recently created three double page spreads for a new DK book, unfortunately I cant post the full drawings yet as Im not allowed too. Hopefully this little sample will let you see some new styles I had to adopt to create the spreads as they all had to be a bit different from each other. I had great fun working on these and they seemed to have gone down well at DK too!

As far as I know, the book is coming out in September and when it is out I will post the rest of the images on here. Apparently, the book is getting translated into over 30 languages and will be sold round the world.

Serato Artist Series

Serato have asked me to contribute to the up coming Artist Series of Control Vinyls they are producing. Only one has been created so far by the legend that is Eric Orr and 2 more are about to be released, mine will be the fourth in the series, I have heard whispers of who the other 2 artists are and its very exiting to be alongside them if its true! I’ll have to wait and see but as soon as I know i’m sure I’ll be shouting about it on here.

Exciting news arrived in an email to me in the last week – Looks like I will be adding my design and illustrations to the fantastic Granimator App. The Kind folks at Ustwo invited me into their studio to see what the app is all about and talk me through creating an Artist Pack – needless to say I bit their hand off! some great designers and illustrators have been involved so far and to be a part of that is fantastic.

I’ll be posting up my designs as I create them.

Firstly I cant believe it has taken me this long to update my blog, its not been idle here at Docvek Towers, far from it, but I will post more about that later.

The DOP crew, who run the amazing solidsteel night in Bristol are celebrating being 10 years old this year and are throwing a party… the details are below and here is the flyer I made for it.

Ten years of DOP

In July 2001 the Detectives of Perspective began hosting parties at the Croft (then named ‘The Comedy Pub’) that aimed to create a very involving experience for the audience; Video projections, art, live and turntable based music and even a massive indoor geodesic dome! 10 years later in July 2011 the Detectives of Perspective are heading back to that same venue to show you where we’re at now and where we’re heading…

In that ten years DOP have hosted parties, turntable battles, festival stages, radio shows and the world’s only Solid Steel residency. DOP also gave a platform to countless local acts and brought to Bristol a massive roster of world class artists such as; DJ Shadow, Senor Coconut, Mixmaster Mike, Roots Manuva, Hexstatic, Death In Vegas, Cut Chemist, Peter Parker, Steinski, Herbaliser, Coldcut, DJ Krush, Qemists, The Bug, King Cannibal, DJ Vadim and more. This short film features a sneak peak into the interior setup provided by the Mutate Britain team including a time lapse of mastermind artist Chu’s 30ft 3D Ninja sound system mural and the HIT+RUN crew printing limited edition XX t-shirts live on the night.

I’ll be posting up a little summery of the (absolutely amazing) XX party soon with photos of Mutate Britain and Hit + Run silkscreen printing tshirts with mine and Strictly Kev’s designs, live on the night!… but first, here is where I have spotted my design on t’internet.

The original design, was for the XX party in Bristol on November 13th but as the design had gone down well with the Ninja’s I decided to give Dj Food a little gift. I think he was pleased!.

On the night of the actual party, the poster had the line-up and date added as it was to be sold as a nice piece of memorabilia. 100 were printed and if any didn’t sell then they were to be sold through the Ninja Tune website. See below how it was spread stealthily across the web in a ninja fashion.
